Banning Unified School District proudly recognizes two outstanding students as February’s Students of the Month. Honorees Anna Phillips from Banning Independent Study School and Daniel Escamilla from Banning High School were celebrated for their resilience, leadership, and commitment to excellence during a special breakfast at Sizzler in Banning.
“Anna and Daniel exemplify the dedication, perseverance, and leadership we strive to foster in our students,” said Superintendent Terrence Davis. “Their achievements, both in and out of the classroom, highlight the spirit of excellence that defines Banning USD.”
Anna Phillips: A Leader with a Heart for Service
Anna Phillips, a student at Banning Independent Study School, is known for her resilience, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving others. A dedicated cadet in the Cadet Corps for six years, Anna has taken on leadership roles, guiding her fellow cadets in events and presenting the colors at board meetings and sporting events. Her passion for the Cadet Corps and sense of responsibility make her a role model among her peers.
Beyond her involvement in the Corps, Anna is an active member of Link Crew, where she supports and mentors fellow students, helping them succeed. She takes pride in her school and community, always eager to lend a hand. Her journey has not been without challenges, but through perseverance and the support of her family, teachers, and staff, she has overcome obstacles with grace and determination.
Anna plans to enlist in the United States Air Force, aspiring to become an air traffic controller. She looks forward to continuing her commitment to leadership and service in her future endeavors.
Daniel Escamilla: A Rising Star in Theater
Daniel Escamilla, a senior at Banning High School, has made a name for himself as a leader in the school’s drama program. With eight theater productions under his belt and a ninth in progress, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to his craft. His role as a leader in the Drama Club has allowed him to mentor and inspire others, fostering a culture of creativity and teamwork.
Despite facing personal challenges, Daniel has persisted with determination and courage. He credits his teachers, his mother, and the Banning High School community for providing him with opportunities to grow and explore his passion for acting. His experiences have shaped his aspirations, and he is now preparing for the next chapter in his journey.
Daniel has been accepted to the University of Redlands, where he is already auditioning for their drama program. His dream is to pursue a career in acting, and he hopes to use his experiences at Banning High School to fuel his success in college and beyond.
Scholarship Opportunity for Students of the Month
All Student of the Month recipients are invited to apply for the Student of the Year Scholarship in the spring. This scholarship evaluates students on their grades, community involvement, recommendations, and essays, with the final selection made by a panel of sponsors and community leaders.
